On August 23, 1305, the real-life Scottish rebel William Wallace is executed for treason and committing other crimes while claiming that he refused to recognize King Edward “Longshanks” as his king. Before William dies, he shouts, “FREEDOM!!!!!” After he (William) looks at a woman in the crowd, Jiraiya, one of the legendary Sannin, who is also a ninja from Konoha, narrates the story of the events leading up to William's death.

Twenty-one years ago, on October 10, 1284, when Naruto Uzumaki was born, a monster called the Nine-Tailed-Fox attacked his hometown, Konohagakure, The Hidden Leaf Village.

During all this, his father Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, and his mother Kushina Uzumaki sealed the Nine-Tailed-Fox inside of him, and sacrificed their lives to protect Konoha, leaving Naruto as an orphan.

After Minato and Kushina passed on, Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage took a 14-year-old Kakashi and an infant Naruto to the land of Scotland where he would be kept safe so an organization called Akatsuki wouldn't kill him. For a while, Argyle Wallace was Hiruzen's close friend, and so Hiruzen knew that the only people that could look after Naruto was William, Argyle's nephew, and William's wife Murron MacClannough.

Although William and Murron wanted a child of their own, they knew they couldn't because they feared that not only would the English kill him, but also Murron would be taken from William because of prima nocta, or the right for an English nobleman to sleep with a woman on the first night of her wedding. However, Hiruzen told Kakashi, William and Murron that they had to keep the fact that Naruto was the Fourth Hokage's son a secret from him so the Akatsuki and the English would kill him.

So because of prima nocta, for the next twelve years, Kakashi, William, Murron and Naruto lived in Edinburgh with one of William's childhood friends Robert The Bruce, so the English wouldn't kidnap Murron.

Kakashi, William and Murron remembered that Hiruzen said that they wouldn't be able to tell Naruto about his past until he came of age.

Twelve years later, in 1296, on Naruto's 12th birthday, Kakashi, William, Murron and Naruto return to Elderslie, William's childhood home to celebrate Naruto's birthday with his grandparents, the MacClannoughs who are also Murron's parents.

Meanwhile, while William and Murron are out present shopping for Naruto's birthday, back at Murron's house, the MacClannoughs watch as Kakashi teaches Naruto the Shadow Clone Jutsu which becomes a success.

But then, tragedy strikes when Murron is killed by the English leading William and Naruto to avenge her death. After her funeral, later that night, Naruto has a dream about Murron. She tells him to look after William while she's gone, and that he's all that William has left. Lastly, she says that she'll always be with Naruto and William. Naruto wakes up, and learns that the MacGregor Clan has offered to help William, Naruto, Kakashi and the rest of William's men to fight the English, and the Scottish rebellion starts. Meanwhile, back in Konoha, after returning from a mission to kill Itachi Uchiha of the Akatsuki, his little brother Sasuke (who killed him because he was responsible for the Uchiha Clan Massacre), Sakura Haruno, Hinata Hyuga (who temporarily replaces Naruto) and Jiraiya (who temporarily replaces Kakashi) are sent on another mission; this time, to help Kakashi, Naruto, William and the rest of the Scots fight the English. Hiruzen says that Kakashi not only told the quartet to help him and everybody else (including Naruto and William) fight the English, but that Naruto needed to learn a new jutsu to help him prepare for The Battle Of Stirling. Hinata, Jiraiya, Sasuke and Sakura reluctantly agree, although Hinata's a little scared because she's never killed anyone before, but Jiraiya tells her that Kakashi, Naruto and William will protect all four of them with their lives.

After arriving in Scotland, Jiraiya, Hinata, Sasuke and Sakura meet Kakashi, Naruto, William and William's men (including William's friends Hamish, his father Campbell and Morrison). Then, Stephen and Faudron appear and ask William to join him and everyone else, to which they agree. Naruto dislikes Stephen at first, but after he saves Naruto and William from getting killed by Faudron who was mentally ill, Naruto begins to doubt himself and accepts Stephen as his friend.

In 1297, before The Battle Of Stirling begins, Jiraiya teaches Naruto how to do the Rasengan while Kakashi watches them from afar. Meanwhile, Hinata, Sasuke and Sakura practice their jutsus: Hinata with her Byakugan, Sasuke with his Sharingan, and Sakura with her healing techniques that she learned from Tsunade and her (Tsunade) assistant Shizune. Tsunade and Shizune are nurses that work at a hospital back in Konoha.

Finally, on September 11 of that same year, Naruto, William, Kakashi, Sakura, Sasuke, Hinata, Jiraiya and William's army of Scots arrive at Stirling where they are about to fight the English. However, the rest of the army is skeptical at having a child like Naruto join them, but although he says that he can fight, they all laugh at him. They also are baffled at having girls like Sakura and Hinata fighting alongside them in the war. William defends the girls, Kakashi and Sasuke (and especially Naruto), and he (William) gives the famous freedom speech:

“And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!”

Finally, after a long and fierce battle with the English at Stirling, the Scots win their victory. Four days later, they celebrate Kakashi's 27th birthday, and a month later, on October 10, Naruto's 13th birthday arrives, and although Murron isn't alive to watch Naruto and the Scots celebrate, William tells him that she's there, but in spirit. In November, William is knighted the Guardian Of Scotland and he, Campbell, Hamish, Naruto and Kakashi reunite with Robert. William introduces Sakura, Sasuke, Hinata and Jiraiya to Robert and they become friends with him. Then, after attacking York, the Scots, Kakashi, Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura and Hinata celebrate Jiraiya's birthday on November 11.

Sometime later, William has a dream about Murron. Although William tells Murron that he misses her, she tells him the same thing that she told Naruto. She also tells him that she loves both William and Naruto. After he wakes up, he, Naruto, Kakashi, Sakura, Sasuke and Hinata meet Princess Isabelle of France who is also the wife of Edward II to negotiate with her about Longshanks' plan for peace, hoping that William will kill her in order for the King Of France, Isabelle's father to declare war. During their meeting, while Kakashi, Hinata, Jiraiya, Sasuke and Sakura are outside of the tent waiting for Naruto and William to return, Sasuke eavesdrops on their conversation with Isabelle. Meanwhile, William declines Longshanks' offer, but after meeting him in person, as she's getting to know William who tells her about Murron, which catches Naruto's attention, Isabelle finds herself falling in love with William. After Naruto and William leave the tent, they find out about Sasuke eavesdropping on their conversation with Isabelle, and the septet (Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke and William) return to William's men.

A month later, on December 27, the Scots, Naruto, Kakashi, Sakura and Hinata celebrate her 13th birthday, and three months later, on March 28, 1298, they celebrate Sakura's 14th birthday.

In April, while the Scots prepare for battle, William finds out that Longshanks has declared war on Scotland and tries to convince the Scottish Council to fight alongside him at the Battle Of Falkirk, but they refuse to listen to him, to which his anger frightens Jiraiya, Kakashi, Sakura, Sasuke and Hinata (especially Naruto) because they've never seen William that angry before. However, he is interrupted by Robert and they have a private conversation. During all this, as Kakashi is about to follow Sakura, Sasuke and Hinata out of the building (who try to get Naruto to calm down,) Jiraiya tells Kakashi that he wants to listen to William and Robert's conversation, which is about William trying to convince Robert to “unite the clans” at Falkirk.

Although Naruto is a little angry at William for scaring him during his (William) argument with the Scottish Council, he (Naruto) eventually forgives him (William), and William apologizes to the rest of the group (Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura).

Meanwhile, in a private conversation, Sakura asks Hinata about her feelings for Naruto. Later, Hinata asks William for advice on how to tell Naruto that she loves him, to which William tells her to follow her heart and wait until the time is right to express her feelings for him (Naruto).

On July 22 of that same year, during The Battle Of Falkirk, William gets injured by an arrow that one of the English soldiers throw at him. Naruto rushes to his side, while Kakashi, Hinata, Jiraiya, Sasuke and Sakura continuing to help the rest of William's men fight the English. Then, William follows the soldiers and is about to attack them, but Longshanks sends a lancer to kill William who knocks him off of his horse as he (William) falls to the ground unconscious. Naruto rushes to William's side. However, once the lancer gets closer to the lifeless William as he's about to kill him, William gets up, removes the lancer's helmet, and realizes that the lancer is none other than Robert. Naruto yells at Robert for betraying them like that while a speechless William falls to the ground and cries and also loses consciousness. When Stephen arrives to bring Naruto and an unconscious William back to safety and are about to return the campsite, one of the English soldiers shoot Naruto and he falls off of Stephen's horse. Although Robert tries to stop the English from killing Naruto, one of the soldiers knock out Robert who is helpless to save Naruto. Then, after Robert wakes up, he finds William's handkerchief the ground that he held in memory of Murron who gave it to him at their wedding. The Scots lose their battle against the English.

Later that night, Sakura tries to heal Campbell from his injuries, but he dies, and Sakura, Sasuke, Hinata, Kakashi, Jiraiya and William learn about Naruto's kidnapping. Enraged, William goes off to rescue Naruto.

Naruto was kidnapped by the English not only because he has the Nine-Tailed-Fox inside of him, but it's also because he helped William commit his crimes. Back in Longshanks' castle, he tells Naruto that William died at The Battle Of Falkirk, but Naruto is in disbelief. As Longshanks is about to sentence Naruto to death by beheading, Isabelle appears and takes Naruto to her chambers. Although Edward II (who is in the throne room with Longshanks) is skeptical at having Naruto stay with her (since William is Naruto's adoptive father and is also a threat to England), Isabelle says otherwise. Later, in Isabelle's room, she treats Naruto's injuries and he thanks her. Although Naruto still thinks that William is dead, Isabelle believes that he's still alive and soothes Naruto.

Meanwhile, William kills Mornay and Lochlan. But before Lochlan is killed, William demands to know where Longshanks has taken Naruto and Lochlan reveals that Naruto is in Longshanks' castle, awaiting his execution. Finally, William reaches Longshanks' castle and sneaks into Isabelle's room where Naruto is and father and son reunite. After William thanks Isabelle for saving Naruto, the two men secretly escape from the castle, hoping to avoid being caught.

After returning Naruto back to William's campsite where Hamish, Stephen, Hinata, Kakashi, Jiraiya, Sasuke, Sakura and the surviving members of William's army are, for the next seven years (from 1298 to 1305), William, Naruto (along with Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura) go on a guerilla war against the English. During the journey, William tells Naruto, Kakashi, Jiraiya, Hinata, Sasuke and Sakura all about his past with Murron, up until Naruto's birth and her death on his twelfth birthday. One night, Isabelle tells William that she will assist him, Naruto, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Hinata, Sasuke amd Sakura in their fight against the English. William says that if it wasn't for Isabelle, then Naruto would have died. Then, Isabelle tells William that she loves him and they end up making love. While Naruto, Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura wait for William, they fall asleep and wake up the next morning, only to find William and Isabelle kissing.

Sometime later, rumors about William and Isabelle's love affair spread throughout the campsite. Even though there's a part of Naruto that misses Murron, he's also happy for William that he's moved on with Isabelle. One day, Robert contacts William to set up a meeting with him in Edinburgh by wanting to fight alongside him in their war against the English. Naruto tries to go with William and to have Kakashi, Hinata, Jiraiya, Sasuke, Sakura, Hamish and Stephen wait for the two men until they come back, but William says that he'll go alone. William also tells Kakashi, Hinata, Jiraiya, Sasuke and Sakura that if something happens to him, he wants them (along with Hamish and Stephen) to look after Naruto. At first, Naruto is skepitcal because he believes that William will come back alive. However, William reassures everyone that he'll be okay.

But however, things do not go the way they planned, and Naruto suffers yet another devastating blow...

By the time William gets to Edinburgh to reconcile with Robert, William gets captured by the English and is taken to Westminster Hall where he is sentenced to death for high treason and many other crimes while at the same time, he says that he never recognized Longshanks as his king, and William is considered a traitor to England. Meanwhile, Robert is shocked to find out that his own father set up a trap for the English to capture William, which leads Robert to disown his father.

As soon as Naruto finds out about William's execution which will take place the next day (August 23), he yells at Hamish and Stephen for letting William doing something so risky like that. Sasuke tries to stop Naruto from leaving, fearing that he'll be killed, along with William, but a stubborn Naruto rushes to Westminster Hall where William is being held, while Hamish, Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Sasuke, Sakura and Stephen follow Naruto.

Hamish and Stephen decide to let Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura say goodbye to William because if they (Hamish and Stephen) visit him, then it will be hard for them (Hamish) and Stephen to say goodbye.

By the time they get there, William tells Naruto, Isabelle, Hinata, Kakashi, Jiraiya, Sasuke and Sakura that  "Every man dies, not every man really lives." After kissing William for the last time, Isabelle leaves him with Naruto, Hinata, Kakashi, Jiraiya, Sasuke and Sakura who say goodbye to him.

William tells Hinata to confess her feelings to Naruto since she loves him (Naruto) so much, to which she does and kisses him. Next, William tells Sakura not to let anyone else die in front of her again, and that she must use her medical ninja skills to revive them. William tells Sasuke not to betray his friends like Robert did to him (William) at The Battle Of Falkirk, and also tells Sasuke that William said thank you to Robert. After he tells everyone to look after Naruto while he and Murron are gone, Naruto says that he wishes that they could try to find a way to save William, but William says that it's already too late. But even though William is a little scared to die (especially Hinata, Sasuke, Sakura, Jiraiya and Kakashi, including Naruto), he has no choice to accept his fate.

Before they leave William alone in his prison cell, the last thing that he tells Naruto before dying is that even though William and Murron were not his real parents (from the beginning when they first adopted him; William remembered when he and Murron found out from Hiruzen that Minato and Kushina, Naruto's biological parents, were dead), he tells him that he and Murron also loved, treated, and thought of Naruto as the son that they never had; almost as if he was actually their biological son. William also promises Naruto that if the crowd tells William to cry out "mercy," instead, he will cry out "freedom." An emotional Naruto hugs William and tells him that he loves him. Meanwhile, Naruto is shocked to find out that the rumors about William and Isabelle's love affair are true when she reveals to Edward II and a sick and mute Longshanks that she is pregnant with William's child. After eavesdropping on their conversation, he tells her (and later Robert who he eventually visits) that she has to be strong for him and that he has a brave heart (hence the title of the movie).

And so, the next day, William's execution arrives, and Hamish, Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Sakura, Sasuke, Stephen, and a distraught Naruto is forced to watch his own adopted father be hanged, drawn, and then quartered, which Naruto ends up crying. Before William dies, he keeps his promise to Naruto and shouts "FREEDOM!!!!!" Finally, William sees the spirits of Minato, Kushina and Murron coming to take him to Heaven, and he dies with a smile on his face.

Later that night, Naruto mourns the loss of William and looks back on the memories that he shared with him and Murron before their deaths. Hinata comforts him, and they make love for the first time.

Back in Scotland, the Scotsmen, Naruto, Robert, Hamish, Stephen, Isabelle (who snuck out of the castle in England), Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura have a funeral for William. Naruto makes a speech telling him on how much he loved both William and Murron, even though they weren't his real parents. Not only that, but William was his companion, mentor and best friend, as well as a great leader of his army who believed in freedom.

What's worse is that on October 10 (almost two months after William's death), when Naruto's 21st birthday arrives, he cries, knowing all too well that William and Murron aren't alive to see it happen. Luckily, Hamish, Stephen, Isabelle (who, again, snuck out of the castle in England) Robert, Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura are there to celebrate Naruto's birthday with him.

At some point, Naruto goes back to Konoha with Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura, so Naruto can get to know his other friends too. He asks Hamish and Stephen to come along with them, to which they do, because they promised William that they'd look after him while he's gone.

When Naruto, Hamish, Stephen, Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura arrive in Konoha, Naruto meets Iruka, Hiruzen, Kiba, Kurenai, Shino, Lee, Neji, Tenten, Might Guy, Choji, Ino, Shikamaru, Asuma, Baki, Gaara, Kankuro, Temari (Gaara, Kankuro and Temari are siblings while Baki is their leader; all four of them are from Sunagakure, The Hidden Sand Village), Konohamaru, Moegi, Udon, Ebisu, Tsunade, Shizune, Sai, Yamato and the rest of the villagers.

However, during Naruto, Hamish, Stephen, Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura's stay in Konoha, Naruto gets kidnapped yet again, but this time, by the Akatsuki and the Fourth Great Ninja War begins. Like William, Naruto (who is eventually saved by Hamish, Stephen, Kakashi, Sasuke, Sakura, Jiraiya, Hinata, Sai and Yamato) recites the freedom speech as well as repeats the words that William said before dying:

"Every man dies, not every man really lives."

Once Naruto and his friends win the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto marries Hinata, while Sasuke marries Sakura and the four of them raise their own families - Sarada, Sasuke and Sakura's daughter, and Boruto, Himawara, William, and Murron (who Naruto named in honor and memory of William and Murron), Naruto and Hinata's children. Nine years later, on June 24, 1314, Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, Sai, Hamish, Stephen, Yamato, Hinata and Jiraiya reunite with Robert at Bannockburn (who is now the King Of Scotland) where they fight the English once more. After they win the battle, Naruto raises his fist up high in the air (except he doesn't have a sword, unlike William who did have one), and like William, Naruto also shouts "FREEDOM!!!!!" Then the army chants William's name.

Afterward, Naruto, Hamish, Stephen, Robert, Kakashi, Sai, Sakura, Sasuke, Yamato, Hinata and Jiraiya visit William and Murron's grave, saying that they won their battle against the English at Bannockburn. Naruto tells William in spirit that he knows that even though William and Murron aren't his real parents, they will always be with him, forever. He also tells them that he loves them, and thanks them for always being by his side.

The story ends with Naruto, Sakura, Sai, Sasuke, Yamato, Hamish, Stephen Kakashi, Hinata and Jiraiya visiting the mountain where he (Naruto), William, Hinata, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura once stood nine years (1305) earlier before his (William) death in that same year.

Then, the voice of William gives the following monologue:

“In the year of our Lord 1314, patriots of Scotland, starving and outnumbered, charged the fields of Bannockburn. They fought like warrior poets. They fought like Scotsmen and won their freedom.”

~ The End. ~
Finally. I posted the summary. Afterward, I'll get straight to the story, so I hope you like it. :D Oh yeah. The following fanfic contains spoilers for Braveheart and "Naruto." You have been warned. Recently, I did an analysis on Naruto and William and discussed the background for "The Tale Of William Wallace And Naruto Uzumaki." I will put a link in the description.

P.S. Note:
TTOWW+NU = "The Tale Of William Wallace And Naruto Uzumaki." Stupid dA wouldn't let me fit it in there because the title is too long.

Hope you enjoy the summary.  Bye! :D
